How the wheel works
The Camelot Wheel maps every key to a position 1–12, with the inner ring as minor keys (suffix A) and the outer ring as major keys (suffix B).
- Same number, switch letter — same key, swap mode.
- ±1 same letter — fifth relationships, very smooth.
- Same code — perfect match.
DJ tips
- Energy boost (+1) raises the mix's lift mid-set.
- Mode shift (A↔B) flips emotional tone without losing flow.
- Stay within 6 BPM of the previous track for the smoothest transitions.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the Camelot wheel?
- The Camelot wheel is a circular chart used by DJs to find harmonically compatible keys. Adjacent numbers on the wheel mix smoothly; switching the letter between A and B shifts between relative major and minor while keeping the same root.
- How do I use Camelot codes to mix?
- Stay on the same number for a perfect harmonic match, move one number up for an energy rise, one number down for a calmer transition, or switch the letter to shift between major and minor.
- What is energy up mixing in harmonic mixing?
- Energy up mixing means transitioning to the next Camelot position, for example 8A to 9A. Because the keys are a fifth apart, the mix feels like a lift in energy without clashing harmonically.
