What this is for
Most delay, reverb, and tremolo plugins ask for a time in milliseconds. This converts any BPM into the exact ms value for any note length.
Use it when your plugin doesn't have a "sync to host" toggle.
Reading the table
- Normal — straight rhythm.
- Dotted — 1.5× the normal value. Syncopated, leaning feel.
- Triplet — 2/3 the normal value. Polyrhythmic and lively.
The math
ms per beat = 60,000 ÷ BPM
At 128 BPM: 60,000 ÷ 128 = 468.75 ms per quarter note.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert BPM to milliseconds?
- Divide 60,000 by the BPM. For 120 BPM, one quarter note equals 500 ms. Dotted values are 1.5 times the straight value; triplets are two thirds of the straight value.
- Why do producers convert BPM to milliseconds?
- Delay and modulation effects take millisecond inputs. Converting BPM to ms lets you sync effects to the tempo of a track, so the repeats land on the beat and support the groove instead of clashing with it.
- What is a dotted delay time?
- A dotted note is 1.5 times the length of the straight note. A dotted eighth note delay at 120 BPM is 375 ms. This creates a syncopated rhythmic shimmer that sits between the beats.
